Several potentially serious issues here. The first is the requirement to give way to trams approaching over your shoulder, with little warning that this is about to happen. The second is the angle of the rails as they cross the road - this is difficult for any cyclist to navigate. As well as trying to cross those rails, on that angle, you have to contend with vehicles also wishing to use the same lane, as can be seen in the final picture.
A better solution would be to divert all cyclists down Todd St (left in the first image), and then right, along Long Millgate, where a controlled cycle crossing already exists. Cyclists could then rejoin the main road a little further north, avoiding a great deal of conflict.
