Speed cushions are usually one of the more cycle friendly traffic calming methods, however these are a hazard.
The cushions leave little gap to the kerb so cyclists are forced into the centre of the road, particularly if towing children on a trailer bike or child trailer.
They are also quite poorly lit and so difficult to identify as cushions at night. Hitting a side ramp unexpectedly could throw a rider off into the kerb or into the path of oncoming traffic.
Action:
Replace cushions, ensuring ample gap to the kerb (1.0m LTN 01/08).
Improve lighting and white lining to ensure that the cusions are clearly identifiable at night.
