Unwelcome new traffic island outside Baldock rail station. When traffic is flowing it forms a nasty pinch point, when traffic is stationary or stop / start queueing as here it prevents cyclists and motorcyclists from passing the queues.
See how this rider has had to pass on the wrong side of the island to access Ickneild Way because otherwise he risked being squeezed out at the island.
Whether you are going straight on into town, left into the station / Clothall Common, or right into Ickneild Way and on to Letchworth, this island is in your way.
Needless to say, drivers can be seen ignoring the right turn ban on a regular basis, and the island does nothing to prevent it.
One last problem is that the island encourages people to cross the road at a very poor point - the boy on the right is walking diagonally across the mouth of Ickneild Way, heading for the island.
At least cyclists have been exempted from the right turn ban, with a little prompting. See #18904
