Kings Hedges Road is not exactly a good road to cycle on: fact. I couldn't help but notice this section of said road, between Graham Road and the bus stop before Kings Hedges Drive. From the west, we've got an advisory cycle lane which runs pretty much along the length of Orchard Park; then, at 'round about the large substation, it ENDs and traffic begins to block the road with most of it turning left into Cambridge Regional College or the Science Park -- wherever they're going, they're going left up Kings Hedges Drive. Just before Kings Hedges Drive, however, there is a good couple of metres of mandatory cycle lane which is so randomly placed that nobody obeys it; in bumper-to-bumper congestion, it's very difficult to see and by the time you've decided that you don't care, it's disappeared up onto the cycleway behind that bus stop. Anywho: I'm just saying at £70/m (according to Campaign For Better Transport), joining stranded cycle lanes like these ones would be money well spent perhaps; although there is a nice shiny new cycleway alongside the busway and, when surfaced, you can enjoy traffic-free cycling (but not signal-free) from Histon Road to Milton Road. I think I know of a road that goes between those two.
