This is what happens at school turnout in Bateman Street.
In some ways it's a good example of what happens when so much traffic gets together and shares road space. Everything is at 5-10mph, nothing is faster. This is probably a good thing, actually. It makes all traffic work to the lowest common denominator, not just be bullied by fast moving vehicles.
Of course, at the end, in the less crowded section there's a lovely example of a car stopped in the cycle contraflow (a big no-no!).
I do what cyclists should do, especially if you see that 4x4 in the main road and the space left, and get off and walk down the pavement. The road is one-way the other way, so shouldn't be entered. Of course, most cyclists just pass as it's infuriating to have to dismount for a driver's illegal action.
